Every year on the 5th of June is World Environment Day. While we implement sustainable practices at our centres every day, at this time of year we really like to reflect on how we can add value to our community environment. if you are thinking the same thing, here are some ideas to expand on the World Environment Day theme with your family:
Have a day of “Fun Community Service” and take a walk around your neighborhood as a family and clean up any litter you may find. be sure to use gloves! It’s such a simple idea, but a very effective one. This would be a great idea for a group activity.
Set up a recycling station in your home.
Learn about ways to save water in your home. Read some books, come up with ideas and put them into practice.
Attract butterflies and birds to your yard. Visit your local nursery to discover what native plants will attract birds and butterflies. perhaps even set up a bird and butterfly feeding station.
Grow your own food.. OK so perhaps start small with just a simple herb garden or even a couple of herbs on your kitchen shelf!
Upcycle! Use materials from the recycle bin to make crafts. We do lots of this at Day One, but you can continue the activity at home.
Which one of these activities would your children love to do?
