Food Allergy Week aims to raise awareness of food allergy including potentially fatal food allergies. During Food Allergy Week, Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA) is calling on all Australians to unite to help increase awareness and share information on what we can do to improve safety for people who live with food allergies.
Australia has one of the highest incidences of food allergy in the world and this is increasing at an alarming rate; in fact, the country has seen a 7% year on year increase in food allergy fatalities over the last 15 years, and 1 in every 10 babies born in Australia will develop a food allergy. With no known cure for food allergy, awareness and education are most important, as an allergic reaction can quickly become life threatening. A severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) must be treated as a medical emergency.
At Day One ELC, our educators are trained in First Aid, CPR and Food Allergies to be able to respond to a food allergy reaction should it arise.
Parents are regularly invited to update their child’s information as food allergies can also come and go over time.
